DONUT
The safer way down.
In an offshore emergency, the DONUT Unit gives your crew a calm, controlled, and secure escape when fixed routes aren’t an option. Trusted worldwide for over 35 years, it’s the proven choice for offshore safety.
In an offshore emergency, every second matters, your crew deserve the safest way down. We’ve led the field in Personal Controlled Descent Devices, with more than 40,000 units supplied worldwide and trusted by hundreds of thousands of trained offshore workers.
The patented DONUT Unit is the Personal Controlled Descent Device widely recognised across the offshore sector as the benchmark for emergency escape.

How it helps offshore
When fixed escape routes are unavailable, the DONUT Unit provides a calm, controlled descent and ensures reliable access to liferafts. With the accessory strop attached to the liferaft painter line, this liferaft-compatible model guides users directly towards the raft during descent, minimising the risk of being washed away.
Engineered for safety. Built to last.
Every DONUT Unit is precision-engineered to perform when it matters most. Designed for demanding offshore environments, it combines strength, durability, and reliability with over three decades of proven performance. Available in standard descent lengths of 15 m, 32 m, 46 m, 65 m, and 76 m — with longer lengths available on request — each DONUT is tailored to meet the unique requirements of every installation. Models include Guided (liferaft-compatible) and Vertical configurations, ensuring suitability across a wide range of escape scenarios, including escape to sea, crane & drill derrick escape.
Each unit is individually load tested to 600kg, with a Safe Working Load of 150kg and a tensile strength exceeding 1000kg, ensuring complete confidence in every descent. The DONUT’s maximum uncontrolled descent rate of 2m per second provides a smooth, controlled, and dependable escape when it’s needed most.
Constructed from cast alloy LM22 with a durable black polyester coating, the descender is built for long service life in harsh marine conditions. The high-strength polyester descent tape offers exceptional heat resistance with a melting point of 482°F (250°C), while the marine-grade Duplex FMX stainless steel shackle and Nylon 66 ripstop harness deliver outstanding resilience and reliability.
From materials to performance, every element of the DONUT Unit is designed with one purpose — to bring your crew down safely, every time.
